
The smell, oh, the smell of sausage and potatoes stewing in a Dutch oven – does it get any better? Not really. Almost as easy as pie and just as delicious!
Prep time: 30-40 minutes
Serves: 4-6
Ingredients
- 4-5 Russet potatoes
- 3-4 Yellow Onions
- 1 lb smoked sausage
- 1 cup butter
- Seasoning
Instructions
Prepare coals in fire pit or campfire.
Slice potatoes and onions to approximately same thickness: about 1/8″.
Slice sausage in 1/4″ medallions.
Line Dutch Oven with foil or oven liner. Spray foil or liner with oil to prevent sticking.
Place a layer of potatoes on the bottom. Add a layer of onions on top. Next sausage, then add seasoning and pats of butter. Repeat until all ingredients are used. You should have about three layers of each.
Place oven on coals, and add coals to the top. Cook at 350ยบ for about a half hour, but check after 20 minutes. Do not stir!
Add more time if potatoes are not tender.
